Ecology of Antibiotic Resistance

What Can Metapopulation Ecology Show Us About Antibiotic Resistance?

Click the images below to find out what a metapopulation is and what they have to do with antibiotic resistance:

We used a "metapopulation population" model to measure the effects of antibiotic consumption, patient transfers and other variables on the number of bacterial infections in different, but connected, hospital wards.

We modelled seven different bacterial species that had a total of 17 different resistance profiles. We found both common patterns and species-specific responses.
