MY RESEARCH

I am an ecologist who studies disease, wildlife, and more. You can check out my main research projects below:

Ecology of Antibiotic Resistance

As a postdoc at Inserm, I am using ecological models to analyze the prevalence of antibiotic resistance infections in hospital networks

Disease Ecology

In recent decades, we have discovered that bats host a remarkable diversity of pathogens. I use field work, lab work, and modeling to study the ecology of pathogens and disease in bats.

Biodiversity in Changing Landscapes

Humans are changing the world in many ways, such as converting the surface of the Earth to crops and settlements. For my dissertation, I studied the effects of land cover on bat ecology.

Bats (and other critters) of Brazil

Brazil is home to at least 167 species of bats. In 2012, I went to the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul as a Fulbright grantee to study bats in the Cerrado. Since then, I have continued to collaborate with my colleagues to learn more about bats (and other critters!) in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Leishmania and leishmaniasis

Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by parasites in the genus Leishmania which are transmitted to people via sandflies. It is endemic to many parts of the world, particularly developing countries and may cause organ failure or cause disfiguring damage skin and cartilage. While in Brazil as a Fulbright grantee, I began a collaboration that's still on-going with colleagues on Leishmania in Mato Grosso do Sul.
